Aura Linux — effective 2 November 2026

Aura Linux licence — version 1.2

Rights holder: Yohan Simon (“the publisher”). This licence applies to Aura Linux's own elements: its name, logos, wallpapers and visuals, tools and scripts (aura-*, Aura applets and extensions, ISO build script), styles, layouts and texts (together, “the Aura elements”).

1. What you may do, free of charge

2. Free for everyone: no sale

Aura Linux is distributed free of charge: the official ISO image is downloaded with no payment and no account, from the official website. Nobody may sell it: not the ISO image, not computers presented as shipped “with Aura”, not access to its download, nor include it in a paid offer, without the written consent of Yohan Simon, creator and publisher of Aura Linux. If someone made you pay for Aura Linux, you can report it to the publisher.

His written consent is also required to distribute a modified version of Aura Linux, to use the name “Aura Linux” or its logos for another system or product, and to remove or alter the copyright notices and these documents.

3. The name and logos: usable, with respect for Aura

Aura Linux is the result of a lot of work. Its name and logos may be used without asking permission to talk about Aura Linux: articles, reviews, tutorials, videos, courses, presentations, community forums and sites, links to the official site, screenshots. By using them, you agree to respect the name and the effort behind it:

Honest criticism remains free: a review, even a negative one, is allowed as long as it does not misuse the logos to deceive or harm. The publisher may ask for any use contrary to this charter to be removed; continuing such use despite the request engages its author's liability (infringement, articles L335-2 et seq. of the French Intellectual Property Code).

4. Included free software: your rights remain intact

Aura Linux contains a lot of free software (Linux kernel, Cinnamon, Firefox, themes, emoji fonts…) that keeps its own licence (GPL, LGPL, MPL, MIT, Apache, OFL, Creative Commons…). Nothing in this licence limits the rights those licences give you, in particular to study, modify and redistribute that software under their terms. Its source code is available from its projects and from Ubuntu's source repositories. The main components are listed in the legal notice.

The kernel built by the Aura Studio kernel tool (Ubuntu kernel and intel-nvme-remap driver) stays under GPL-2.0, like the Linux kernel. Translations and adaptations made by Aura for a free program (for example the French translation of DeskWidgets) follow that program's licence.

5. Non-free software

Some non-free software may be installed at your request or for your hardware (for example the NVIDIA graphics driver, Discord). It is governed by its publisher's licence, which you accept when installing it. Aura does not modify it and does not redistribute it in its ISO image. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera are neither provided nor allowed: their installation is blocked out of the box.

6. No warranty

Aura Linux is provided free of charge, “as is”, without express or implied warranty, in particular of operation on specific hardware or fitness for a purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the publisher cannot be held liable for damage related to the use of Aura Linux. Consumer rights that cannot be excluded by law remain applicable.

7. Termination

This licence ends automatically if you do not comply with it. You must then stop distributing the Aura elements. Rights you hold under free-software licences are not affected.

8. Governing law

This licence is governed by French law (Intellectual Property Code). For any permission request: yohan.simon3@gmail.com.
